Five girls have raised £205 for Macmillan Cancer Support following a bake sale last Wednesday at Castle Combe Christmas Gift Fair.

Lola Roberts, 10, her sister Eliza, eight, Cressida Wilshaw, 11, Ayla and Freya Cleverly, organised the fundraiser at St Andrew’s Church car park where they sold handmade gifts and cookies.

The girls aim to send their first instalment to Macmillan in January. Mother of Lola and Eliza, Anna Roberts, said the girls have currently raised more than £600.

The fundraisers are also currently selling raffle tickets for donations to Macmillan Cancer Trust. Prizes include lunch for two at the Castle Combe Manor House Hotel.

Ms Roberts says that cancer is a topic very close to the girls’ hearts, with Lola, Eliza and Cressida all having family affected by the disease.

Ms Richards said: “I feel it is so important for children to take an interest in helping others and spending their spare time constructively.”

Lola, Eliza, Ayla and Freya are all pupils of Bybrook Valley School in Yatton Keynell. Cressida lives in London, and her family have a second home in Castle Combe.  The girls’ next bake sale will be on Sunday at Castle Combe Village Hall.
