Kington St Michael Primary School has been judged by Ofsted to be outstanding in all five areas of inspection.

The school near Chippenham, which was rated good at its last inspection in 2011, was inspected on November 13 and 14 and judged to be outstanding in leadership and management, behaviour and safety of pupils, quality of teaching, achievement of pupils and early years provision.

The Ofsted report reads: “All pupils are highly motivated, have a love of learning and make rapid progress in their learning across different subjects. Relationships throughout the school are highly supportive and caring and each pupil is known individually.

“Senior and middle leaders are a highly effective group who work tirelessly to develop good practice within the school as well as monitor teaching and learning. They work closely with local partner schools to share this.”

It said the school, which has 118 pupils on roll, used teachers’ pay awards to reward good practice.

Headteacher Tracy Cornelius said: “We are proud to be in the top 10 per cent of primaries achieving the new Outstanding judgement.

“We are very proud of all we do at our school and have worked hard to make further improvements since our last inspection. It is very rewarding for the staff, governors, children and parents to have this work acknowledged in such a positive report.”

Chair of governors Rachael Jenkins said: “The Outstanding judgment reflects the whole school philosophy of ‘Only my best is good enough,’ and is a great reward for the hard work of the pupils, staff and governors of Kington St Michael School.”

The report said the school could improve further by ensuring all pupils attained their highest level and achieved their full potential in mathematics by the end of Year 6.
