A Marshfield teenager has topped a public vote to win a Digital Hero award with a £5,000 prize.

Ronan Finnegan, 19, designed a pioneering iPhone app that encourages fundraising and has been named the person most likely to inspire digital donation.

He received his award at the TalkTalk ceremony held at the House of Commons in London.

WakeOrDonate, in the final stages of its launch onto the App Store, is an alarm clock application that donates the user’s money to charity each time they press the snooze button.

Mr Finnegan founded his company orDonate in October last year and is taking a second gap year before university to pursue the success of his apps.

He said: “With WakeOrDonate I have tried to create a charitable app that incorporates donating into our daily lives.

“By winning this award I have the opportunity to get my next app GymOrDonate developed and help potentially millions of fitness fanatics give to charity.”

With GymOrDonate, users give a donation to charity if they miss their workout.

Dido Harding, TalkTalk CEO said: “I would like to congratulate Ronan for all his hard work, as well as all our winners and encourage them to continue making a difference.”

Culture secretary Sajid Navid said: “I hope the TalkTalk Digital Heroes inspire others to see how they can use technology to help their local communities.”

Andrew Mulholland was announced as the overall winner, for his work to bring robotics and programming with Rasp- berry Pi computers into classrooms across the UK.
