Young fundraisers saw Wiltshire’s new air ambulance up close after collecting more than £100 for the charity.

Five to 12-year-olds from Chippenham Rugby Football Club were rewarded for their efforts with a tour of the helicopter at its base in Devizes.

The Minichips raised the money by taking part in the West Coast Festival of Rugby at Barnstaple on May Bank Holiday. More than 200 youngsters and parents travelled from Chippenham in festive-themed fancy dress – even managing to transport a 20ft Christmas tree as a campsite centrepiece.

To complete the theme, the Minis commissioned wacky elf socks, proving so popular they generated a £107 profit.

Matt Viner, spokesman for CRFC Mini Rugby, said the air ambulance was the unanimous choice of charity to give the money to.
