Castle Combe Market is looking for more local food producers to sell their wares.

The market, held on the first Saturday of the month in the village hall from 10am to 2pm, has been going since February this year.

It already offers bread made in North Wraxall, honey and eggs from Marshfield, preserves, scones fresh from the oven, fudge and toffee.

Janet Fenneck, who set up the market along with Jane Halliday and Anne Chapman, sells her own homemade cakes and would like to widen the selection of food. She is particularly interested in finding someone local to sell cheeses, pies and sausages.

Mrs Fenneck, 56, who lives in Castle Combe and is also a dressmaker, said: “I sell the more traditional cakes because that’s what people want – Victoria Sandwich, chocolate fudge cake, millionaire shortbread. One of my most popular is lemon drizzle cake.

“Everything we offer at the market is homemade and handmade, items that you don’t find in the shops. And you’ll find that if you do want something a little bit different, the stallholder may be quite willing to oblige.

“If you are a local food producer and interested in having a table, get in touch. Tables cost £5 and it is indoors so it won’t be rained off.”

The market also sells craft items like greetings cards, jewellery and scented candles.

There are extras arranged ahead of Christmas, the next dates are: Saturday, November 1; Sunday, November 16; Saturday, December 6; and Sunday, December 14.

Any interested producers can call Mrs Fenneck on (01249) 782361 or visit the market’s Facebook page.
