A support session for the carers of addicts will be held in Chippenham next week.

The first of its kind in Wiltshire, the free forum organised by Wiltshire Addiction Support Project (WASP) will allow those who care for people with addictions to talk to others going through a similar experience, and to get advice from Wiltshire Substance Misuse Service, the Probation Service and Carer Support Wiltshire.

The chairman of WASP, Barry McLane, will speak about his past as a drug addict, while his mum will tell her side of the story.

Carer involvement coordinator Sarah Rigden, who has organised next Wednesday’s event, has first-hand experience of the issues she is helping carers with. Her brother died in 2000 after struggling with alcoholism for most of his life.

Miss Rigden, 49, said: “The support network now is so much better than 14 years ago. When he came out of rehab he was rehomed next door to a pub.”

The forum is on Wednesday, upstairs in the Salvation Army hall in Foghamshire, from 10am to 1pm.
