Chippenham Sailing Club held its annual awards night on Tuesday last week.

The well-attended evening began with games and paddling on the river using a variety of craft followed by buffet and the presentation of certificates and awards, with a grand prize draw.

This year has seen further community development and residents from Unity House, Wood Lane, and Cocklebury Paddlers, a group of adults with learning disabilities from Cocklebury Farm-house, joined in the evening to be presented with their awards.

Both groups, plus play parties for children with additional needs, attended Paddlesport sessions tailored to their requirements.

The club runs courses in spring and summer on the river for Paddlesport and sailing and everyone who participated was given a club certificate. Individuals who had achieved British Canoe Union standards received their pass slips.

The club welcomes family participation and was delighted to give Paddle Power Passport to under-14s as well as star awards to young people over 14 and adults.

Individual awards were given to Charles Allen, John Mullarkey and Andrew Marshall for notable moments within the club.

All monies from the prize draw will go towards the new hygiene facilities and the club thanked its supporters.

Although courses on the river have finished for summer there will be pool sessions and trips in winter and enquiries are welcome.
