Pickpockets on the prowl

POLICE have warned the public to be on their guard after pickpockets targeted shoppers in Calne.

Two eastern European women attempted to steal from a shopper’s handbag in the Dorothy House charity store in Phelps Parade on April 10, but were disturbed and made off empty-handed.

Sergeant Phil Connor said: “This is a countrywide type of offence where individuals specifically target the elderly and vulnerable in charity shops.

“They know how to use implements to discreetly cut open handbags and remove property.

“We are advising all members of the public to ensure handbags are worn over the shoulder and sitting in front of the body.”
