A maintenance worker at the centre of a dramatic rescue operation from a Silo in Calne has died.
Paul Sharp, a contractor for Lincolnshire based company Silocare was cleaning the silo at the Porte Marsh Industrial Estate when he is believed to have suffered a heart attack.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene just after 2.15pm.
Mr Sharp, who was wearing a harness, was winched back up the silo by his colleagues to a narrow metal walkway 70ft above the ground where they started to resuscitate the 35-year-old.
Five fire engines from Calne and Chippenham attended as well as Trowbridge rope rescue team who used a series of wires and pulleys to winch the Mr Sharp to safety in a basket stretcher.
Despite desperate attempts to save him Mr Sharp died in the air ambulance while on his way to Swindons Great Western Hospital.
