New Calne town councillor Michelle Pearce hopes to improve the reputation of the town after winning her seat at a by-election held last month.
The Lib Dem mum-of-four, 36, had a landslide victory, after receiving 331 votes to UKIP’s 79. She will represent the Lickhill ward and replaces Andy Pier.
She said: “I have always been interested in politics and now I have a bit more time on my hands as my children are getting older, I decided I wanted to get more involved.
“My main priorities are things that are going to improve life, like getting rid of the dog mess, the state of the pavements along Lickhill Road and parking around the school. Also we are concerned about the new development of houses that has been proposed for the area.”
Mrs Pearce, whose children are aged two, five, ten and 12, said: “A lot of people are quite harsh about Calne, and it has had bad publicity but I want to change that.”
