The fate of the former petrol station in London Road in Calne was set to be decided last night at a meeting of the Northern Area Planning Committee.
Calne town councillors voted unanimously in June against a proposal by Comparo Ltd of Cirencester to replace the former Calne Service Station with nine homes.
Coun Roy Golding said: “The scale of the planned development is beyond belief. Four, maybe five, homes would have been ample.”
Neighbours have written to Wiltshire Council objecting to the development.
Jackie Knowler, owner of the neighbouring Carter Stores, said: “My parents live above the shop and their bathroom, toilet and living room would be overlooked.
“There is no provision in the plans for privacy or security.”
