Calne chamber’s town trade bid

PEOPLE are being urged to Think Calne as part of a Chamber of Commerce initiative designed to help trade in the town.

The Think Calne scheme has been created to encourage local people to think before they buy and give Calne a chance to provide them with what they need, in a bid to help businesses survive during the recession.

A Chamber of Commerce spokesman said: “All businesses in Calne, whether members or not, are suffering from the effect of the credit crunch.

“In an attempt to mitigate these difficulties and deliver tangible benefits, the chamber committee has been working on an exciting idea with the fitting name of Think Calne.

As part of the initiative the chamber has set up a charter of commitment for organisations and businesses to sign if they are willing to look for services from local companies.

Eight schools and two surgeries have already signed the charter and the chamber will continue to approach organisations in the town.

Try the town council. They seem to have money to burn, so why not encourage them to commit to spending it locally. Its the least they could do!

As existing supporters of this scheme, we would urge all businesses in Calne on get onboard.

Projects such as this not only help the local business economy but also help to keep locally employed people in jobs and protect people's livelihoods.

There are so many businesses within the Calne area, not just those that are based in the main shopping area of the town, and if people knew what products and services were available then supporting the local business community makes so much more sense.

People can find out more information on Think Calne via their website at www.thinkcalne.co.uk
. Over the coming weeks, a list of all supporters of the scheme will be published online so that visitors to the site can see what products and services are on offer from nearby businesses.

Businesses (and residents) don't have to travel out of the area to get most of the stuff they need on a regular basis.

Calne has a thriving business community, LET'S SUPPORT IT!
