Councillor Dave Bland has retracted his resignation from Calne Town Council a week after stepping down.

The Priestley ward councillor sensationally walked out of a town council meeting along with former councillor John Ireland over a vote to raise the council tax precept by 33 per cent last week, calling it an “immoral decision”.

He did not formally resign in writing and has now decided to keep his role in order to represent the people of Calne.

In a letter to town clerk Linda Roberts he said: “Due to discussions with several town councillors and ward members about the unnecessary wasteful expenditure of monies by this council, and having taken on board these comments, I have decided to retract my verbal resignation, and will continue to represent my ward.”
