Town councillor does a resignation U-turn

Councillor Dave Bland has retracted his resignation from Calne Town Council a week after stepping down.

The Priestley ward councillor sensationally walked out of a town council meeting along with former councillor John Ireland over a vote to raise the council tax precept by 33 per cent last week, calling it an “immoral decision”.

He did not formally resign in writing and has now decided to keep his role in order to represent the people of Calne.

In a letter to town clerk Linda Roberts he said: “Due to discussions with several town councillors and ward members about the unnecessary wasteful expenditure of monies by this council, and having taken on board these comments, I have decided to retract my verbal resignation, and will continue to represent my ward.”

i cannot believe this, what is he doing? oh one minute i will do this next minute i will do that , is he really the man to serve on any sort of council, i am sorry mr bland but once a decision has been made of any nature you have to be big enough to accept that dedcision, there are many things we dont agree with tough , "thats life boy".put it this way i am in favour of the increase, thats my decision ,you have yours, i am for the people of calne to have one of the best sporting facility`s in the area & something i am very proud of having in the area ,let`s be fair if you ask the majority of people in calne if they would like a top sporting facility for there children /grandchildren to be able to attend & use through proper organised & child freindly clubs & it will cost an extra 93p a week do you really think they would say no, i would like to think not.
calne has been a very deprived area in recent years , we are now moving with this development, lets not spoil it ,enjoy it & use it
