TWO men were arrested in Royal Wootton Bassett today (Tuesday, May 1), after a lorry driver called police to report an attempted fuel theft from his vehicle.

Police received the call from the driver around 10.45am this morning. The lorry had been parked up Stanier Road in Calne when the driver heard noises coming from the rear of the vehicle.

A fuel pump had been used to attempt to steal fuel from the truck. A description of the vehicle the suspects made off in was passed to officers who located a vehicle matching the description in Royal Wootton Bassett.

The vehicle was pulled over and two men, aged 18 and 53, both from Cardiff, were arrested on suspicion of attempted theft of fuel and going equipped.

The 53-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article after he was found to have a pocket knife on him.

They are currently in custody at Gablecross while enquiries continue.
