A CALNE office furnishing business added another string to its bow recently when it took over local removal and self-storage companies in a bid to become a one-stop shop for everything from new chairs and tables to a redesigned office to a move to Canada.

Elm Workspace, based on Porte Marsh Road, has now taken over the 43 year-old Britannia Quick Move removals business, and Calne Self Storage, which will be combined with Elm’s existing self-storage sister company, All Boxed.

Together the companies can now offer office furniture supplies, design services, home and business removals, and self-storage in an impressive 196 internal and 47 external containers.

Projects director Nick Clarke said, “This is an exciting development in the business and it’s a big move in the right direction for us. We’ve now got a solid base of quality businesses that all link together to give all our clients the best possible service.

“There’s a lot of synergy between the companies: often when businesses move they will redesign their offices, and the storage will be particularly useful for both commercial and private customers who need to store things when they’re moving around.”

Elm Workspace, which started up in 2001, is made up of 26 staff in various departments including design, logistics, finance and sales, and led by the four directors, Daren Spencer, Nick Clarke, Ian Powell and Richard Hofen. The company’s past clients include shoe manufacturer Clarks, Wiltshire Council, Danone, and Gloucestershire Constabulary.

Nick added: “What sets us apart from other similar businesses is our dedication to building good quality services that are completely local: all our businesses are based here in Calne and our employees are Wiltshire people.

“These new businesses mean we can cover all bases and be self-sufficient, catering to all our customers’ needs from start to finish.”

Four members of the Elm team – Amy Smith, Daren Spencer, Ian Powell and Tony Bryant - will be taking part in a 100km sponsored walk next weekend to raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance. They have raised over £1,700 already and are aiming for a £5,000 target. To sponsor them go to https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/elmworkspace1?page=4.
