A TWO-FOOT long machete was seized by police in Calne after staff at The Co-op discovered the weapon in the river next to the supermarket.
Two police community support officers seized the weapon in the Mill Street car park at 10pm on April 29 and ordered for its destruction.
PCSO Mark Cook of the Calne Community police Team said: “I would like to pass on my thanks again to the staff at the Co-op store in Mill Street for bring this to our attention.
"It is very worrying that an item of this nature has been left in the river near to the Co-op where children sometimes gather. It is also a concern to how the item may of gotten there, and who would carry an item like this into the town centre."
