TENNIS players at Calne Tennis Club are rejoicing after their long-term plan for a new clubhouse has been completed.

Around 40 members joined the committee and MP James Gray for the official opening of the £12,000 clubhouse at the Beversbrook Sports Facility on Saturday afternoon, which was funded through credits, grants from Calne Without Parish Council and the Calne Area Board.

"We had a fantastic day," secretary Catherine West said. "We had the courts built about two years ago and we hoped to build a clubhouse at the same time as part of our long-term plan but we spent all the money on the courts.

"We have had to wait a bit longer for the clubhouse but we managed to get it built in August and since then we have added a few bits and pieces and opened it officially on Saturday, which ties in perfectly with our summer season.

"I think really we are quite satisfied with everything now and we have got a thriving junior section and coaches that work for the club. We are not a huge club but we are growing and although we have a small group who play matches, we have a much bigger social group and we wanted to put a focus on that.

"This is what we have been missing, it has given the club a heart."
