A FIVE-year-old from Calne with a heart of gold is celebrating after she received two certificates in the post thanking her for raising £300 for two charities.

Ruby Mahy, of Churchill Close, has continued to impress friends and family after opening her heart to Children in Need and Cancer Research by doing a sponsored skip and sponsored bike ride.

Mum Nicola Sealy said she could not be prouder. "We were in town last September and I went into Boots and they had all the fundraising gear out for Children in Need. Ruby asked if she could have some," she said. "When we got home I explained all the silly things people do to raise money and she said she wanted to do a sponsored skip so she did 100 skips and raised £70."

The efforts of the Holy Trinity Academy pupil stunned the family but her greatest achievement came a few months later, when she decided to raise money for Cancer Research in memory of her great grandmother who died just after Christmas.

Taking on the challenge of cycling the whole way round the recreational ground in the centre of Calne, passing her great-grandmother's house on the way as a personal toast, the five-year-old raised £230 for a charity.

She added: "To think she is only five and she is thinking about things like that makes you choke up. She has just got a really kind heart. We are so, so proud of her and we always tell her that her gran gran is looking down on her and is very proud."
