PLANS to regenerate Woodroffe Square in Calne and build 15 new houses and nine apartments have been well received following a public consultation at the start of the month.

Dozens of residents attended the consultation at Colemans Farm Community Centre to examine the plans created by GreenSquare, which include the demolition of garages and 49-60 Woodroffe Square, and to share their views.

"I am absolutely delighted," Calne town councillor Mercy Baggs said. "I have asked them to do a presentation in the Town Hall to all the councillors too but I am delighted that this is finally going ahead.

"I am not standing in the next election and in a way it feels like completion for something I have been going on about for the last 12 or 13 years.

"One of the only things I am concerned about is the parking because at the moment emergency vehicles cannot get through Woodroffe Square. Even though they are creating associated parking, I don't think there will be enough because many people have two cars."

Coun Baggs, who also wants the developer to give residents living in the houses tipped for demolition the priority to choose flats in the new development, praised GreenSquare for taking residents' concerns seriously.

Phil Bowley, group head of strategic asset management at GreenSquare, said: "It was encouraging to have so many people from the local community come along to the event to discuss our draft proposals for the regeneration of Woodroffe Square. The event gave people the chance to find out more about the ideas we have for this site, and gave us the chance to hear their thoughts, concerns and ideas, which is a very important part of the process for us.

"The feedback we received was generally very supportive and we were pleased to find out that people are welcoming our ambitions to redevelop the existing homes in the area, as well our plans to create additional parking.

“We are now considering all of the feedback and suggestions we received as we work to finalise our proposals."
