FIFTEEN volunteers collected a black bags each full of bottles, cans and general waste from the roadsides in Calne as part of the Great British Spring Clean.

The group collected the bags, which also included old car parts, road cones, a lampshade, large panes of glass and builders' from land behind the Lloyds Bank and near the recycling area on Sunday.

Volunteers also targeted the area near Sainsbury's in The Pippin, The Green and up to Castle Walk while other little picks took place at Castlefields Canal and River Park and Abberd Brook.

The campaign, which is led by Keep Britain Tidy aims to inspire more people to get outdoors and look after the environment and the town is already looking ahead to Calne in Bloom, a competition which they have won gold in for the last three years.
