Parents gave their children a standing ovation when the classic fairy story of Goldilocks And The Three Bears was given a modern twist thanks to Roald Dahl.

Children at St Margaret’s Preparatory School, Calne, sang, danced and acted their way through a pantomime version of the story inspired by Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes.

Pupils in Years 3 and 4 aged from seven to nine presented a dress rehearsal to the whole school before taking to the stage for two performances for family and friends..

Year 3 teacher Heather Richards said: “They were absolutely brilliant. Every child from the two year groups took part, with the leading roles played by the older children. We owe a big thank you to our parents who helped out with costumes and make-up and did a fantastic job. The children had been learning about Roald Dahl as part of the celebration of 100 years since his birth so it was fitting for us to do this version of the story. The audiences really loved it and there was a lot of cheering and booing!”

She added: “The standard of singing, acting and performing across the board was very high and the children did themselves proud.”

The audience demonstrated how much they had enjoyed the production through their generosity in the retiring collection, which raised over £350 for Wiltshire Sight, the St Margaret’s nominated charity for the year.
