GREEN-FINGERED gardeners will be spoilt for choice as Redrow Homes built nine new allotments for the Calne community to use.

The housing developer choose to dedicate more than 2,000 square metres of its land at Cherhill View and over the last couple of months, builders have been busy creating the 10 square metre allotments, which boast raised beds, dip tanks, benches and perimeter fencing and hedging.

Charlotte Munday, Redrow area sales manager, said: “Redrow is always keen to give back to the communities where it has developments. We agreed to build these allotments as part of our agreement with Calne Parish Council and we’re thrilled to be able to hand across the finished product."

The nine allotments, which sit near to the new development of three, four, and five bedroom houses near to Stockley Lane, were handed over to Calne Parish Council and Calne Mayor Councillor Tom Rounds earlier this month.

"It was an honour to have accepted the handover of the newly created allotments at the Cherhill View housing site from Redrow developers," Coun Rounds said. "These allotments will add to the increasingly popular and practical pastime for the people of Calne.

"With more than 100 people on the waiting list for an allotment, these additional plots cannot have arrived too soon. On behalf of the community I would like to thank Redrow for their generous contribution of this welcome community asset."

Redrow sales consultant Tina Macnamara said she was looking forward to seeing the fresh fruit and vegetables that will be grown in the area.
