Pupils were looking good as they dressed in red and green to raise money for a charity which supports people in Wiltshire living with sight loss.

St Margaret’s Preparatory School, Calne, has chosen Wiltshire Sight as its charity of the year and a Christmas themed day has raised £1300 for the cause.

The children wore the festive colours for a red and green day which included a morning of fun activities with stalls and sideshows. Among them was Pin the Nose on Rudolph, Guess How Many Baubles were on the Christmas tree and a sensory game of smell and touch to guess what was in a present; linking with the work of Wiltshire Sight. A total of £650 was raised from the activities, with another £650 being added by the retiring collection at a traditional Carol Service in the evening.

Wiltshire Sight is an independent charity supporting people living with sight loss in Wiltshire and Swindon. It assists more than 2,500 people of all ages, as well as their families and carers. It is based at the St Lucy’s Centre in Devizes which is equipped with state-of-the-art assistive technology products and low vision aids.

A spokesman for the charity said: "Wiltshire Sight do not charge for their services and receive no statutory funding. We therefore depend on donations that will enable us to continue to support the growing number of people with sight loss in Wiltshire."

St Margaret’s Headmistress Karen Cordon said: ‘We decided that this charity which does incredible work in Wiltshire would be an ideal choice for us to support this year."
