A MAN from Royal Wootton Bassett has been arrested by police after he was found to be in possession of a knife and a set of bolt cutters.

The 21-year-old was arrested for a public order offence, possession of a bladed article and going equipped for theft last Thursday, October 27 at 7.45pm after police were called to an incident at the rear of Bank House.

PCSO Mark Cook of Calne police said: "I would like to reassure residents and parents that this was an isolated incident where no one was injured.

"Whilst Calne and our town centre is a very safe to be, this report does show that we are not immune to incidents involving people who may behave in this manner.

"I would like to remind youths who wish to gather in the town centre area to socialise with their friends, that gathering in dark locations such as car parks being hidden away from passing adults is not the appropriate thing to do in regards to safety.

"I would always encourage you to gather with your friends in designated locations such as the youth shelter in The Pippin, which is illuminated under street lighting and covered by CCTV cameras monitored by Calne Town Council volunteers.

"Always ensure you look after your friends, advise your parents who you will be with and where you are going for the evening. Please also ensure that you return home at an appropriate time, and where possible carry a mobile phone with you encase of an emergency."

The 21-year-old has been released on bail until Wednesday, December 2 with conditions not to be found in Calne after 7pm.
