THE YOUTHS responsible for setting off and throwing fireworks around Calne will be on the receiving end of a stark warning from police.

Several teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17 were reported to be playing around with fireworks in the areas of Stokes Croft, Bryans Close Road, King Edward Close and the Sainsbury's car park in The Pippin on Sunday evening.

PCSO Mark Cook of Calne Police said: "This is an extremely dangerous thing to do. It can not only cause an injury to the person throwing the firework, but if the firework was to hit or explode near to someone this could almost certainly cause them serious and life-long injuries. We have been given names of people involved in this activity, and we will be speaking to their parents.

"We have also been advised by our local shops that youths have been asking passing adults to purchase fireworks on their behalf. I would like to take this opportunity to remind people that this is an offence which we will take very seriously and anyone found to be doing this may have action taken against them."

Anyone found to be throwing fireworks can receive a fixed penalty ticket of £90.
