Clive Book, Wales and West Utilities Head of Emergency Service said: “We are working to repair a damaged gas pipe on the A3102 road between Calne and Melksham. So we can safely repair the pipe, we have had to turn part of the gas network off. This means that the gas supply has been interrupted to more than 600 homes on the following streets.

“We now need to visit every home affected to safely turn their gas supply off. We will then finish the repair to the damaged pipe before visiting every home again to turn their gas back on and safely relight their appliances.

“Our engineers are going door to door, and we are asking people to please give them access to their gas meters. All our engineers will be carrying identification.

“This is a complex job and we do not yet know how long it will take. Our engineers are working as safely and as quickly as they can.

“We will be distributing alternative heating and cooking facilities to vulnerable customers in the area as required. If anyone needs assistance, or knows of a neighbour who may, please let us know.
