HUNDREDS of people visited Bowood House at the weekend for the annual Wiltshire Game and Country Fair.

Held for the ninth year, visitors were treated to a range of displays in the three show arenas including equestrian events, falconry displays, shire horses, dog trials and more in the grounds of the grade I listed Georgian house.

Mark Hulme, co-founder of Living Heritage Country Shows who organised the event, said: “We could have done with a bit better weather at the weekend but we had 1,200 people and we were quite happy with what happened.

“It’s a full day of activities that we’ve built up over the years.

“From our point of view provided the weather is okay people are going to come out and the problem comes deciding what you do want to do.

“It’s one of the most popular shows that we do.”

There was also cooking demonstrations, craft stalls including glass blowing as well as a number of events people could try their hand at including clay shooting and angling across both Saturday and Sunday.

“September's Living Heritage Game and Country Fair always draws in a great crowd of visitors to Bowood and, once more, this weekend's event more than lived up to expectations,” said Amy Nutland, Bowood's marketing and business development manager.

“The Horse-boarding UK finals were a definite crowd pleaser amongst so many other highlights which also included the likes of chainsaw carving and Pony Club competitions.”
