THE STREETS of Heddington were filled with children's television heroes as the preschool hosted their third annual scarecrow trail.

A record number of entrants guessed all 24 of the scarecrows correctly over the weekend and the popularity of this year's trail helped the preschool raise over £1,500.

Preschool manager Leanne Weston said: "It was really good. It was our third year running the scarecrow trail and it was very successful and we raised just over £1,500. We had 24 scarecrows this year and the best scarecrow was the magic roundabout which was made by Chris and Carolyn Hamblett who donated their winnings back to the preschool.

"We also had a record number of people who got all the answers right this year so all the winners were put in a bucket and the winner was Jasper Clements who is a pupil at Heddington Primary and he donated his money to the Pennies for Play fund which has been set up to build a new play ground."

The preschool have pledged to match that donation to the Pennies for Play fund and will also donate some of the funds to the church for the ongoing upkeep of the yard, while the majority will go towards a new play house and slide for the preschool infants.

Mrs Weston added: "Thanks to the village for their support and for making the scarecrows and to the businesses for their support and the parents and staff who helped with the organisation of the day and we look forward to seeing you all next year."
