INSPIRED by her mother's recovery from breast cancer three years ago, a woman from Calne has helped raise £601 from outside her house for Breast Cancer Support.

Louise Rouse, 29, organised the packed fun day outside the family house in Macaulay Square on Saturday with her 57-year-old mother Gill Rouse for the charity which is close to their hearts.

She said: "Three years ago my Mum was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and she had to have chemotherapy and an operation and we were told she would have to have radiotherapy but because it was all a success, she didn't need it in the end and she has been doing fine since then touch wood.

"She received a lot of help and support from the nurses in Swindon who stayed in contact and it was nice to know she had them on hand at such a lonely time. They sent through lots of packs of information and advice and we thought because she had been through it, Breast Cancer Support was a charity close to our hearts."

Although the rain continued to pour down during the afternoon, guests continued to pile in under the gazebos for a slice of cake, face painting and games.

Miss Rouse said: "We had quite a good turn out even though the weather was a bit of a disaster! We celebrated during the day with a raffles, children's games, cakes, face paint and we even had someone turn up and play some music for us.

"The support from our neighbours was great as they went to local businesses and got vouchers and gifts. We all came together for a good cause."
