HUNDREDS of children inspired by the medal haul of Team GB's athletes took to the gardens of Bowood House to practice their sport skills last weekend.

Children under the age of twelve took part in their own super Saturday and Sunday by challenging one another to target throwing, sponge javelins, space hopper racing, badminton, catching, archery and zorb football organised by Go Active Coaching, while the sun beat down on the luscious gardens near Calne.

Amy Nutland, marketing and business development manager, said: "Averaging around 1,000 visitors a day for our specially-themed two days of Olympic-inspired activity, we certainly had a super Saturday and a stellar Sunday at Bowood’s Adventure Playground last weekend!

"Zorb football and archery are activities that are not often available and they proved particularly popular with older kids, aged 8-12. The sponge javelin was just one of a number of pursuits that kept younger ones gripped."

The activity area between admissions and Adventure Playground, which was busy across both days, was lined with the flags of the nations competing in the Rio Olympics.

Bowood House and Gardens are celebrating the Go Active Coaching event as a success and have expressed an interest in doing something similar in the future. The organisers are now preparing for the Great British Food Festival which will take place this weekend.
