SPINGFIELDS Academy in Calne has scooped a major national prize for teamwork in rugby, after a meeting with an England rugby legend.

The school for children with complex learning difficulties, won the Teamwork Moment of the Year Award at the Dallaglio foundation RugbyWorks Awards 2016.

Pupils Paul Jillings, 15, and Holly Worts, head of life skills and post-16 transition at the school, collected the prize on behalf of Springfields at an awards ceremony in London.

The award was granted for the teamwork they demonstrated at a regional RugbyWorks event, a scheme that aims to develop essential life skills in young people through participating in rugby.

“When you have had a tough start in life, uniting through sport, particularly rugby, can be immensely powerful,” said former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio.

“It takes real commitment to be part of RugbyWorks and the team of teachers and pupils at The Springfields Academy should be truly proud of their achievement.”

David Fass, CEO of Macquarie Group, an investment bank that supports the Dallaglio Foundation, said: “Macquarie and its staff are proud to have worked with the RugbyWorks programme to support young people and these awards showcase its profound impact on their lives.

“We congratulate all of the participants and everyone involved with the programme.”
