OUR tennis club will finally have a heart says chairman Sarah Brown after a £14,000 fundraising campaign to build a hut at the Calne Tennis Club.

Since moving from the Recreation Ground to Beversbrook Sports Facility 18 months ago the Calne Tennis Club, which was founded in 1984, has been operating without a central hub for its members.

However, after receiving its latest donation of £1,233 from the Calne Area Board work can finally begin on the hut following a six month campaign by the club chairman.

Mrs Brown said: “It is fantastic, we can now start the project. The campaign has gone really quickly and I cannot quite believe we have done it so fast.

“It took us around five years to raise the money to move from the Recreation Ground. It is true that we knew what we were doing a lot better than the last time.

"Right now there is nowhere we can put our things or sit down. The hut will give the club a heart and give the people somewhere to congregate in between or after matches and gives the club a little more focus.”

The tennis club raised the majority of the money through grants with Viridor Credits, the Calne Area Board and the Calne Without Parish Council.

“We want to give a big thank you to all the contributions that we have had and we feel we have done very well and people have been very generous,” added the chairman of five years.
