THE BBC took to the streets of Calne last weekend to film a brand new series, with Flog It! star Paul Martin heading the shoot.

Those in the vicinity of Bream Close may have caught a glimpse at the production of new series, Street Auction, which saw the road strewn with bunting, festival stalls and BBC camera crews.

The premise of the new show is that locals find unwanted goods in their homes, which are then sold on stalls and in a pop-up auction, with the proceeds paying for a gift for someone in the community.

Resident Jim Sutton was chosen as the recipient of the gift and received £1,400 after all of the money was counted following the auction.

Paul Martin said: “This was the first Street Auction filming for the new series and we had no idea how it would work or if anyone would turn up but the people of Calne did not let us down.

“The sun shone on us, there was a wonderful community atmosphere and the day was a great success.

“The people who live in the streets where we filmed were so welcoming and generous, with both the things they gave to be sold and the bidding in the auction itself.

“And there was a wonderful moment when we revealed how much the event had made and who it was in aid of."

In 2013, Mr Sutton was medically discharged from the RAF after suffering a brain injury, which caused serious psychological effects such as anxiety and depression.

After getting support from Help for Heroes and a spell in Headley Court, the military hospital in Surrey, the father of two decided that he would help other veterans re-adapt to civilian life after they have suffered injuries.

Mr Martin added: "I walked down through the crowd and started to tell people a little bit about how much the secret man did for the people of the town and a little bit about what he had been through.

“And by the time I got to Jim and said it was all for him we were all in tears. Jim was crying, his neighbours, friends and family were crying and even our production team were all in tears."
