THE Hilmarton Scarecrow Festival has raised a whopping £6,942.00 to be divided between Hilmarton School and Pre-School, St Laurence Church and charity Hounds for Heroes.

The theme for this year’s event was professions and the festival saw around 60 scarecrows dressed as police officers, chimney sweeps, office workers amongst several others dotted along the trail.

Treasurer Mary Spooner said: “We are really ecstatic about what we have raised. The weather was shining and we had hordes of people out there. There must have been about a thousand.

“It was a cracking day and everything went perfectly. We are getting bigger every year. More attractions and we all look forward to it.

“It gets the community together and all round it is great to get people from all ages out there enjoying the day.”

The committee is also hosting a cheese and wine evening at The Duke on Friday, June 24 at 7.30pm where cheques will be presented to the four organisations.
