THE Calne Area Board have granted £5,000 to the Bentley Model Railway Group for refurbishments to its proposed new home in the town.

The group are about to put pen to paper to take on their new premises in the Portmarsh Estate and need to raise around £20,000 to make sure it is ready for members.

Vice chairman Tim Williams, 59, said: “We are moving from Chippenham and are buying an industrial unit in Calne.

“One of the problems with building it here is that there is a lot to do to make it fit for purpose. We want to make it as inclusive as possible.

“We really want to make it fit for disabled people to come. The main cost is the lift which is taking up around £9,000 of the budget.”
