A MUM-of-three from Calne is running the London Marathon along with her daughter this month to highlight the impact of autism having watched her son cope with the condition for 18 years.

Alison Morrison, 46, has seen her son Daniel Morrison deal with his Asperger syndrome his whole life and knows first-hand the effects it can have.

She is now running the world famous 26.2-mile race through the capital to raise awareness, and money, for charity Ambitious About Autism.

Ms Morrison, of Oxford Road, said: “I am doing it for autism as my son has Asperger syndrome.

“I am doing it to mark his 18th birthday which was in January and doing it as a milestone for him.

“I did the London Marathon two years ago and I want to do it in a better time and do it a little quicker than I did then.

“My daughter will do it a little quicker than I will I reckon. I imagine around an hour quicker than me.”

To help raise funds for her run she will be hosting a tea party at the Hilmarton School Hall on Sunday (Apr 10) at 2.30pm.

Her daughter Lucy Morrison is also running in the race but for charity Action Aid, a non-governmental organisation working against poverty and injustice worldwide Miss Morrison, who works for Kingston House Care Home in Derry Hill, said: “I am excited about the run and I have raised £200 but still need to get up to about £500.

“I have been doing lots of running and cycling for the event and I have got two half marathons before I do the full one in London.

“I must do about an hour or two hours every day. The people in my work know that I am running the marathon and they have been really supportive.

“A few of them have donated chipping in little bits here and there. I was just lucky that I got it and really just entered a ballot.

“You have just got to try and keep going in the race and we have both trained hard and as long as we just keep going it should be fine.”

Tickets for the tea party cost £10 per head and need to be bought in advance by contacting Ms Morrison on 07903 129 449.
