SINGCHRONIZE Choir in Calne is searching for men to join the ranks as singers and musicians.

Musical director of Singchronize, Sarah Mouille, started the choir with her husband Thomas in 2010, aiming to bring people together and sing modern music instead of traditional choir songs. After the death of Mr Mouille, the percussionist of the choir, from cancer at the age of 36 in June last year, Mrs Mouille wanted to keep it going.

Mrs Mouille, 36, of Calne, said: “I very much wanted to carry it on. Him not being there is emotionally difficult but I want to continue the choir. It is a very happy and pleasant group and we have lots of members but there are a lot more women than men. I think it can be difficult for men to join these things, but it is also a real social scene, the men go off camping or go for curries.”

As well as singers, the choir also welcomes people who can play instruments.

Jay Perrett, 55, bass player, said: “Joining Singchronize is the best social thing I have done in a long time. Believe it or not, from my perspective, the singing is not the major part of why I am in Singchronize, although I enjoy it enormously. Sarah has created and fostered a great environment to sing in. She does all of the musical arrangements and it brings the best out of the choir.”

The current choir members are encouraging more men to join the team, promising it is a great way to spend time.

Les Fish, 64, of Calne, said: “The reason I love it so much is that the choir is so much more than a group of people who get together to sing, it becomes a community of like-minded people. Even if you think you can't sing, like me, when you put 70 or more people in a room led by a very talented music director like Sarah, together we can make a great sound as has been proven by the responses we get after our performances. The thrill of performing live is second to none.”

If you are interested to join Singchronize then you can email singchronizechoir@gmail.com or contact Mrs Mouille on 07816 283999. Choir practices take place every Thursday at the Calne Town Hall from 8pm-9.30pm.
