THE PENNIES for Play mums from Heddington are putting the final touches to their auction to raise money for the local play area.

The group, which is aiming to raise £40,000 to put towards revamping the play area behind Heddington Primary School, is holding the auction on March 18 in The Ivy Inn. The catalogue of lots is still growing, offering a wide range of items, and hoping to attract some attention.

Lucy Tyler, member of Pennies for Play, said: “We are up to 85 lots so far. The idea is to raise extra money to cover the cost of the project but we have also applied for a couple of grants too.”

The group of mums has also drawn in the support from local MP James Gray, who showed up at The Ivy Inn last week.

Mr Gray said: "I went along to show my support to the group and what they are doing. It is good to see such an enthusiastic group trying to make a difference to the local area."

The mums of Pennies for Play have been shown support by a large number of businesses and people in the area, still receiving items to enter into the auction.

Mrs Tyler said: “We are all very grateful for the amount of support we have received. Everyone has been very generous. The local community are getting excited to come along to the auction. All of the committee members have been working so hard in delivering the catalogues to people in the area, everyone really is pulling together. I just cannot believe the amount of support we have received from local businesses.”

The Pennies for Play auction will be taking place on March 18 at 7.30pm in The Ivy Inn, Heddington.
