BAGPIPES were blaring in Calne for the Royal British Legion’s Burns Night celebrations at the White Hart.

The Calne branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) spent its Monday evening at the White Hart Hotel, enjoying a traditional Burns Night supper.

Paul Ellis, of the Calne Royal British Legion, said: “A big thank you once again goes to our hosts David and Rebecca Leaning for suburb food and company in their excellent restaurant.

“A very special thank you to David and Rebecca who were presented with the Rory Penman Memorial Shield for the most money collected by a business in Calne with a grand total for the White Hart of £2,084.74. This is down to their commitment and hard work for the Poppy Appeal.”

The RBL also enjoyed the traditional meal, accompanied with a piper who helped present the Scottish meal.

Mr Leaning, owner of the White Hart, said: “The evening was very successful, we had a piper and a traditional ceremony. During the ceremony the piper entered the room and I followed with the haggis. Joe Hawyward did a toast of the haggis with a ceremonial sword. Everyone was more than happy and we look forward to hosting future Burns Nights.”
