FIRE crews were called out to The Lansdown Hotel yesterday (December 22) after a fire broke out in the kitchen.

Calne fire crews were called to the scene after a fire broke out in the kitchen of the hotel in The Strand, Calne, just before service at 5pm with 30 people set to dine. After some quick thinking from the assistant manager, the fire was dealt with and service carried on as usual.

June Notman, manager of The Lansdown, said: “It turned out to be a minor fire, it was not as bad as it could’ve been. Our assistant manager Becky Riches managed to turn off the gas, it managed to keep everyone amused with fire engines appearing outside. After the fire we continued with our shift and carried out our Christmas meals.”

The fire crews were pleased to see the level of efficiency of the actions taken by the assistant manager.

“Because Becky managed to turn off the gas the fire officers were pleased as it meant the fire was well contained. We had 30 booked last night and everything went ahead as normal, nothing was severe or affected,” added Mrs Notman.
