PUPILS at Lyneham Primary School were paid a visit on Friday from the Blitz Buddies, who taught them about life in the Second World War.

The pupils of the school were visited by Sue and Tony Horton, members of the Blitz Buddies, who came along dressed in traditional 1940s clothing.

Mrs Horton, 58 of Melksham, said: “The Blitz Buddies are a group of friends that enjoy the 1940s and 1950s. We bring all of our own stuff.

"The majority of our clothes are original. It isn’t a cheap game but we enjoy getting together and acting out what would have happened during the Blitz.

"We have a laugh but then there is the serious side of it all. We are passionate.”

The Blitz Buddies travel around the country, visiting schools and educating the pupils on life during the war.

“The day was really enjoyable. We took memorabilia to the school and told them all what our characters would do during the war.

"I showed them all of the clothes in my suitcase that I would have had as part of the land army. My husband is Captain Mainwaring and spoke about what he did during the war.

"We then had a sing along. The children were very good and enjoyed it, and we had a competition where the children sang with us, they definitely won.”
