CALNE turned out in full force to the town’s bonfire and fireworks display at Beversbrook Community Sports Facility on Friday evening.

Many thousands attended the evening which, like Chippenham included a laser show for the first time, as well as an extensive firework display.

Harry Potter sat atop the bonfire after being selected as the winning Guy Fawkes and its two young creators, Nia and Libby Davies, will have the honour of switching on the Christmas lights on November 28.

Mayor Howard Marshall said: “The weather was just right, it stopped raining for the show, and the fireworks were absolutely superb, the best fireworks around that I have seen.

“I reckon we must have had 4,000 people there, everyone was happy and joyful and in a good mood, it was just a really nice party atmosphere.

“Feedback on the night was absolutely brilliant, people were saying it’s the best fireworks show they have seen. They could not believe how full on it was, they were really impressed.”

As well as the usual festivities, the evening also saw a Jennings Funfair, bar and food, and a free sparkler bar.

Mr Marshall also extended his thanks to organisers at the town council as well as volunteer marshals from the Calne Lions, Rotary club and the neighbourhood police team.
