WHILE most enjoyed an extra hour in bed there was no rest for Calne Running Club's Simon Nott this Sunday as he took nearly three minutes off the 5km course record at Clock Change Challenge Run in Calne.

Nott finished the 5km course, an out and back route along quiet country lanes, in 15 minutes and 44 seconds, well ahead of the previous best time by Joseph Goddard of 18 minutes and 38 seconds set in March this year.

It was a double success for Calne Running Club in perfect running conditions on Sunday as Denise Grech finished in 17 minutes 22 seconds to also smash the female 5km record previously held by Sally Jamieson (20 minutes and eight seconds).

The bi-annual event, which includes a 5km, 10km and 1.5km fun run aspects, was well attended with the 10km race attracting 282 runners, the most Calne Leisure Centre has ever attracted to the event.

Every runner received a special memento for the event with age-related category winners also receiving a special gift in the post-race presentation.

Organiser from Calne Leisure Centre, Luke Shipway, said: "I think it's the best weather we have had for the event, normally we are battered by wind and rain but there was no wind or rain which was ideal.

"The 10km sold out again which was great, we sold the last few places on the day and the 5km, it's the second time it's run, and we had the fun run."

The 10km road race was won by Michael Towler (Avon Valley Runners) in 33 minutes and 18 seconds while the fastest female was Charlotte Richer (Headington RR) in 40 minutes and 14 seconds.

Calne Leisure Centre are now gearing up for their sold-out Santa Scamper run which will see hundreds of runners dressed in full Santa costumes run through the town centre on December 12.

Early bird entry for the first Clock Change Challenge of 2016, taking place on March 27, closes on October 31.
