Town Clerk Linda Roberts has completed her year as President of the Society of Local Council Clerks.

Calne’s town clerk term came to an end at the society’s 41st National Conference where she handed over the reins to recently retired clerk of Litchfield City Council, Peter Young.

The town’s profile has been raised nationally and internationally during Mrs Robert’s year in office which has seen her present at the annual conference of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks in America.

The past year has also seen a number of other councils visit Calne to see how the town council delivers services to the community.

Mrs Roberts, who was only the second clerk in Wiltshire to be President in 40 years, said: “Calne Town Council has definitely been recognised as a very proactive, forward thinking town council delivering exceptional services to its community.”

Her presentation at the SLCC regional road show on Calne’s Town Masterplan also generated interest in the town and Mrs Roberts even fortunate enough to attend a Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

She moved to Calne in 1983 and was deputy clerk between 1998 and 2007 before becoming town clerk.

The Society of Local Council Clerks is the professional body for local council clerks and represents clerks to over 4500 councils in England and Wales.
