A 49-YEAR-old man has been evicted from his home in Cornflower Close, Calne, after a police drugs raid there.

Police said they found evidence of regular drug taking and drug dealing, but no arrests were made.

The warrant was executed on October 1 by members of the Calne, Chippenham and Corsham police teams, Sovereign Housing officers, the Tri-Force dogs section and Melksham Pro-active Crime Team, and it took them until October 7 to complete their investigations.

Sovereign Housing’s anti-social behaviour officer, Louise Borzoni, worked with the Calne Police team to gather evidence to take the case to court and said: “We’re committed to providing homes in neighbourhoods where people want to live and we’ll take firm action against drug-related anti-social behaviour in our communities.

“This action has been the result of some excellent collaboration between Sovereign and the police. We’d also like to thank residents for the support they have given in helping us to achieve this outcome.”

When the warrant was executed a man who was not the tenant was detained just outside and searched by police. No drugs were found on him. A number of people who were also seen to call at the property were also stopped and searched.

Police then gained entry through the back door before conducting an extensive search of the house, using a specially trained drugs sniffer dog.

They said scales and a small amount of cannabis were found as well as drug paraphernalia.

PC Sonya Stockhill, of Calne Police, said: “The action taken came directly from intelligence from the community and when we receive any information in regards to drug taking, Calne Neighbourhood Police Team will act on that when possible.

“We would like to pass on our thanks to the community who have passed us information in the last few weeks which led to us attaining the warrant.

“Drug dealing and drug use always has a detrimental effect on the wider community, and we are hoping that from the action taken the quality of life of the residents of Cornflower Close will be greatly improved.”
