FLORAL tributes have been left at the entrance to Hilmarton after a teenage motorcyclist lost his life on the A3102 last week.

The motorcyclist, named locally as 18-year-old Scott Blake, of Calne, died following a collision on Thursday on the main road between Calne and Hilmarton. He was an engineering student at Swindon College.

Scott sustained serious injuries to his head and spine and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by the Great Western Air Ambulance but died on Saturday.

A note on one bunch of flowers read: “Scott, Ride Free Mate! You’ll be sadly missed but your smile will be forever remembered. Rest in Peace.”

Another read: “Sweet dreams gorgeous boy, you’ll be desperately missed” while a third said: “Fly high sweetie, rest in peace.”

Wiltshire Police were called to the collision involving a motorcyclist and two vehicles just after 5.45pm on Thursday.

Scott was riding his Honda 125cc motorcycle when he collided with a grey Vauxhall Astra while overtaking a white Vauxhall Astra van.

The van and car drivers were both uninjured.

A spokesman for Swindon College said:  "It is with the greatest of sadness to hear the news of the death of one of our students Scott Blake and on behalf of Swindon College we send our most heartfelt condolences and sympathy to Scott’s family.

"Scott was an Engineering apprentice working for his employer Siemens and was always very committed and hardworking and particularly enjoyed the practical aspects of the course."

Tributes have also been left on the Wiltshire Bikers website with one describing Scott as “a lively, bright intelligent and courteous young man” while another described the incident as “so tragic and heartbreaking”.

A police spokesman said: "A post mortem will be carried out in due course and a file will be prepared on behalf of HM Coroner for Wiltshire.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time."

The road between the Beversbrook roundabout in Calne and Hilmarton was closed in both directions for several hours as police carried out a thorough investigation at the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision should call PC Leighton Williams, from the Tri-Force Roads Policing Unit, on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred.
