YOUNGSTERS in Calne who have done good deeds or gone out their way to help others are being rewarded with 'positive tickets'.

Lauren Kayll is one of the recipients of the tickets, which were launched last year by Calne Neighbourhood Policing Team and Wiltshire Council.

Earlier this year, she discovered a 94-year-old lady had fallen over and hit her head in Wenhill Lane. Lauren remained calm and flagged down a passing vehicle, asking the driver for further assistance. The motorist then called for an ambulance and paramedics gave the woman medical treatment for her injuries.

This is just one of the examples of the positive acts from local youths the police and council are hoping to see more of in the future. Seven children were presented with their 'positivity tickets' by PC Sonya Stockhill and PCSO Mark Cook at Calne Area Board on Tuesday, which took place at Beversbrook Sports Facility.

Bethany Salsbury and Alivia Embling received their tickets for helping PCSO Cook and PCSO Allan Byrne when they visited The Fynamore School to talk about what the police do. The officers said the girls showed they are exceptional role models for the younger pupils of the school.

Among the other winners were Callum Partington who helped reunite someone with their mobile phone after it was dropped at a Calne Police Bluez 'n' Zuz disco. Jackson Jackett also remained calm when a member of his family suffered a medical emergency in the town centre and called an ambulance.

The quick thinking of David Ross helped stop a fire from spreading in the town after he saw some older boys behaving in an anti-social manner, where they had started two large fires near to a river in the Castlefields Park.

He called 999 and alerted the police and fire service to what was happening, stating that the fires were beginning to get out of control. He remained calm throughout the incident and provided police with details.

Oliver Hobbs was also awarded for the musical arrangements at the Mayor Making Ceremony in the Calne Town Hall he performed earlier this year. This performance was enjoyed by a large audience and police say it showed off his exceptional musical talent.

PC Stockhill added: "As the police we deal with a lot of youngsters in a negative light and it's nice to be recognising youngsters who do good and positive acts in our community."
