MOTOR enthusiasts turned up in their hundreds with their own cherished vehicles to add to the museum’s collection for its Annual Classic Vehicle Show.

More than 200 classic and vintage cars, which have been lovingly restored to their showroom condition, went on show attracting hundreds of visitors to the annual show.

The museum normally has more than100 exhibits, the majority of which are cars from the 1920s onwards.

There is also have a collection of motorcycles, mopeds and push bikes as well as interesting motoring memorabilia and a reconstructed 1930’s style garage complete with cars.

Each year the museum adopts a theme for the show, with this year’s being the iconic Mark I and Mark II Jaguar.

Calne’s Don Wescott scooped the best in theme with his 1956 Jaguar XK140. Devizes enthusiast Tony Green, won a special trophy with his Aston Martin DB2.

Among the 200 exhibits was Bert Huntley of Swindon with his 1937 Ford Model Y which he has owned for 49 years. He said; “I bought this lovely little car for £8.00 when I was in my youth and it has been a reliable mode of transport”.

David White, of Melksham, has also owned his treasured classic car for half a decade. The former member of the RAF brought his 1946 MG TC back from Cyprus.

Former pilot, Richard Clode, who previously controlled a Jet Provest Mark IV aircraft, now controls a Jaguar XJ8.

Marlborough’s Peter Turvey brought his rare 1914 Stanley Steam car which went on show next to Greyhound the Showman’s Steam Engine of the same year.

Calne’s David Robbins brought his immaculate Austin Burnham Saloon 16/6 to the show having recently finished its restoration.

Even the Shell petrol can was decorated to ensure it matched the car’s livery. He said; “I take great pride in restoration, it’s all down to detail."

The show is organised by the Friends of the Museum, a volunteer group which raises money to keep Richard and Hasell Atwell’s collection open to the public.

Organiser Derek Warnett paid tribute to the volunteer group which run the show and said the event was a great success despite the rain in the afternoon.
