A FUSION of colour, sound and smells will fill Calne on Saturday as the town holds its annual summer festival and carnival.

A packed schedule of events has been planned throughout the day, including street stalls, food and craft stalls, all starting at 11am.

The festival, which coincides with Armed Forces Day, will hold an Armed Forces parade from The Green to the Beach Terrace at 2.30pm while the Calne Carnival procession will travel from the Bremhill Social Club to Station Road at 4.30pm.

A Calne Town Council spokesman said: “Last year's Carnival procession was fantastic with a record number of walking entries and floats with many themes, colours and creative ideas.

“This year we would like the procession to be even bigger. Keep your eyes open as lots more surprises are promised for the day.”

Titan the Robot is being billed as the stand out act for the festival, having already performed at the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix and the UK premier of iRobot.

The eight foot high machine will be performing its mix of comedy, street theatre and music at the town hall car park at 11.30am and 2pm and on the A4 just before the carnival procession reaches the town centre around 4pm.

In the event of persistent rain Titan the Robot will be located at Calne Leisure Centre.

The ribbon to open the new Calne Skate Park will be cut at 1pm with music, demonstrations, competitions and free giveaways between noon and 4pm at the new facility on Station Road.

Friends of St Mary’s are inviting brave teddy bears and their friends to parachute from the top of the tower of St Mary’s Church between 11am and 1pm as part of the festival.

A free circus skills workshop will take place alongside a special teddy bears picnic on The Green between noon and 3pm.

Throughout the day and into the evening the Jennings Fun Fair will be in operation while Dave and Ewe’s Mobile Farm will be welcoming visitors to the New Market Place between 2pm and 6pm.
